Hamish’s thoughts on remixing/recomposing

Hamish, the creative producer of this project, responded to my ideas about remixing or recomposing. He wrote:

We have also been discussing remixing as an option to include / accommodate the middle of the road music that sailors are remembering from the era with Proud Mary being by far the most, pretty much often only mentioned song. I currently cannot imagine a scenario where any reference to, or snippet of, Proud Mary could contribute to our storyworld and visitor experience in any meaningful way. Well, not until I found the Ike and Tina version.

Nicole, who brings much relevant Battlestar Galactica expertise to our project, alerted us to Bear McCreary’s twist of All Along the Watch Tower.  She notes, it was a brilliant twist to a well-known song and an unexpected turn in great series.

McCreary’s score features some really interesting electro-acoustic production. I’ve been wondering how I’m going to manage the “industrial” areas of the vessels, and using synthesis to create other-worldly sounds that suggest those that may have been found in those spaces is perhaps one good way I could go… in combination with acoustic instruments…
